When Buying A Bike.

New or Preowned

This does change from state to state, but these are (for California) from problems in past experiences we have had.

1. If you are planning on financing your bike, it may take a longer amount of time to get the plate because of the dealer paper work, transfer with DMV and the finance company. It somtimes can take 8 to 10 weeks extra.

2. When buying it is the same thing as number one but 4-9 weeks extra, depending on when the dealer hands in the paper work to DMV. When talking to the dealer mentioning that you are going to put an FSO/Four Strokes Only or Baja Designs Dual Sport Conversion kit on the bike it could make things go smoother!
Then again, it would be even better if it is possible for you to buy your bike from a dealer that would give you a plate with the bike. Ask the dealer nicely if they can help you with this.

3. Some states require that you have a social security number and/or a US citizenship paper trail, green card,
drivers license (CA or the state you live in), ID etc.

4. Some states require that before you register the bike, you have insurance on your bike before you register it. Also don't forget your motorcycle endorsement for the M/C license, if you don't have one. Remember that on Dual Sport rides you travel on public streets. Don't forget your street smarts.
